Doris Ottie-Boakye holds a PhD from the Regional Institute for Population Studies, University of Ghana-Legon. She also has an MPhil in Population Studies and a Bachelor of Arts- Economics (major) with Political Science, all from the University of Ghana-Legon. She has a Post-graduate training in Reproductive Health and HIV. She has a wide range of experience in the area of research and has worked with government, private sector companies and several donor agencies across many sectors. Her research interests ranges from health systems, ageing, social protection, maternal, newborn and child health, sexual and reproductive health, poverty reduction and inequality, WASH and policy reforms over the past decade utilising both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. She has been involved in every aspect of research, as well as consulting, training and facilitating. Specifically, she has experience in research protocol development, research design (randomized control trial, quasi-experiment, cross sectional, etc), multi-tasked in managing, monitoring and evaluating of research projects in multi- cultural environment, and data management (cleaning and analysis) of large datasets from longitudinal and cross sectional surveys (GLSS, DHS, MICS, PHC, etc), routine health information systems data, as well as stakeholder engagements and dissemination of projects.
Doris was a Principal/Senior Research Officer/Demographer with the Dodowa Health Research Centre (DHRC) where she managed and coordinated the activities of its health and demographic surveillance system. She has been a Fellow for the INDEPTH Network. She has served as a member of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of the DHRC since 2011. She has reviewed both international and national (Ghana) students (PhD, MPhil, MSc, MPH and Undergraduate) and project-based research protocols from different perspectives including Business Administration, Economic Studies, Social Science, Biomedical/Epidemiological Study, Clinical Trials, Implementation Research, Exploratory studies, and Monitoring and Evaluation studies. Again, she has had the opportunity to also supervise research works of both Masters and Undergraduate students in and outside of Ghana respectively. She is an affiliate of the African Health Economics Association (AfHEA), West African Network of Emerging Leaders in Health Policy and Systems (WANEL), and International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP).
Doris has some publications to her credit in peer-reviewed journals, and has also consulted for organizations such as UNAIDS, World University Services of Canada (WUSC), WAHO, USAID, ALCO, LSE/IGC, WHO/TDR, University of Sheffield-UK, Nottingham University-UK, University of Georgia-USA, JICA, ILO, and Compassion International.
